- Third win of the season for defending champion Larry ten Voorde
- Porsche Junior Laurin Heinrich maintains series lead after nine races
- Sunday’s race airs live from 14:15 on NITRO in German free-TV
Spectators in the Eifel were treated to a gripping Porsche Carrera Cup held as part of the ADAC GT Masters support programme. First, pole-setter Pereira lost the lead at the start to Porsche Junior Laurin Heinrich (Germany/SSR Huber Racing), only to have ten Voorde sweep into first place shortly afterwards. A safety car phase settled the field for a while. After the restart, ten Voorde defended his lead while Heinrich was thrown down the field after a collision. The order at the front was ten Voorde ahead of Pereira and Buus. In a thrilling final sprint, title defender ten Voorde defended his first place, while Buus managed to catapult to second place in the final lap. “My plan was to wait and see if the guys in front made a mistake. I was so focussed on my duel with Dylan Pereira that I didn’t realise we were already on the last lap,” explains Buus.
Pereira ultimately took the flag in third place. “Unfortunately, I made a mistake shortly before the flag, which cost me second place. My speed over the race distance was super, so I feel we’re well positioned for Sunday’s race,” says the 25-year-old. The Luxembourger was followed over the finish line by the Dutch quartet Loek Hartog (Black Falcon), Rudy van Buren (Huber Racing), Morris Schuring (SSR Huber Racing) and Max van Splunteren (Team GP Elite). Lorcan Hanafin (Fach Auto Tech) from the UK finished eighth as the best rookie. Ninth place went to Huub van Eijndhoven (Netherlands/GP Elite).
After dropping to 24th place at one point on the 3.629-kilometre circuit, Heinrich also made it into the top 10. “I got away brilliantly at the restart after the safety car phase, however my overtaking attempt afterwards was somewhat overambitious. Still, I managed to gain a lot of positions and finish in the points. This gives me a good feeling for Sunday’s race,” concludes Heinrich. Carlos Rivas (Luxembourg/Black Falcon) won the ProAm class ahead of his German teammate Sören Spreng and Ahmad Alshehab (Kuwait/CarTech Motorsport by Nigrin).
Heinrich maintains his lead after round nine of the season with 175 points. Thanks to his win, ten Voorde (162 points) narrowed the gap to 13 points. Buus (138 points) ranks third in the championship. The drivers are back on the racetrack on Sunday at 2.40 pm local time to contest round ten of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland. The German free-TV station NITRO broadcasts the Nürburgring race live from 2:15 pm.
